I am a Celebrant in Stockport, Greater Manchester and Cheshire committed to serving our lovely local community. I am on a mission to find out who in the local area is providing services that allow us to celebrate all the milestones in our lives with a celebrant led wedding. This company is one that I hadn’t come across before so I wanted to know why their way of capturing your event differed from a Videographer or Photographer.

Interview with owners Shona and Ollie

I met Ollie and Shona while we were at a Wedding Fayre last September. The whole concept I thought was brilliant. Really fits a celebrant led wedding by having people you love involved in the day.

How is this different from a Videographer?

The wedding video is created by the guests on their i phones. It is then put together by the company. As a celebrant, I love weddings that involve as many of the guests as possible – after all, how much more fun is it to play a part in the big day? Remember how desperate Ross was to be involved in Phoebe’s? One for the Friends fans there.

Involving your guests

So many of the rituals across cultures have the family and friends intricately involved in the ceremony and it’s beautiful, so why not with the video? It definitely adds a sense of personalisation to the day. I could see it being so much fun to do, which fits right in with a celebrant led wedding.

Interview with owner Ollie

First thing to be said is how lovely they both are and excited about the potential for making the day really personal. With a background in tech and film design, they really know what they are doing.  Also, how responsive they were. I got the sense that if you were to work with them you’d get a really easy to use, reliable service. And something different. We all love that.  

What is it about this method of capturing a wedding that most appeals to you?

Ollie:

It allows couples to have their entire day captured from start to finish, in a really fun way! We’ve also noticed that the guests that help film get so much joy just from participating and being part of the wedding.

It’s also just a fantastic way of preserving honest and spontaneous moments – at the tables, during the dances and so on, that otherwise would have been lost somewhere deep in people’s phones forever.

Many couples also like to host screening parties, which is a great way to round it off and allow the guests that helped film to enjoy what they helped to create!

I love that. How does it work?

Ollie:

Once you have signed up on our website, couples can assign filming duties to up to 10 guests. For example, you might assign the ceremony to one or two guests. These individuals will then receive guidance from us, telling them exactly what to film and how to do a great job. After the wedding, they’ll receive the link to directly upload their clips – it’s quick and easy – ready for us to edit together into a fun highlights film.

How can you guarantee the quality?

Ollie:

Our service is not the same as hiring a professional videographer – so don’t expect super professional and cinematic quality. That said, phone video quality these days is very good.

With Filmed On Phones, couples will receive a highlights video that is crafted in large part by those that love them most. Capturing your own moments will mean the video has real heart to it. It’s relaxed and authentic.

What gets filmed at the Wedding?

There really are no limits to this. From getting up in the morning to the last taxi home. From the first moment we see the dress to the expression on your mum and dad’s face when they see you. The focus is on the whole of the wedding day and everyone there-  as well as the couple. You can assign as many or as few of our preset filming roles as you like, but ultimately your guests can film whichever parts of the day you want to capture.

I got a great vibe speaking to Ollie. They are good at what they do. I think this is what I’d like to do. I really love the idea of a wedding community with people having a role to play and getting really invested in the ceremony and party in a different way.
